Data Sourcing & Methodology
At swiftbic.org, we prioritize absolute transparency and data integrity. This methodology details how our records are compiled, validated, and updated, ensuring complete E-E-A-T alignment for our routing tools.
1. Data Provenance & Sourcing
Our database contains 53,460 active records compiled directly from official national financial authorities and public repositories:
- Germany (DE): Sourced from the Deutsche Bundesbank's Bankleitzahlendatenbank (Registry release: June 2026).
- Switzerland (CH): Sourced from SIX Interbank Clearing BC-IDs (Registry release: June 2026).
- Global Records: Built on the community-maintained open reference directory (br99bry/swift-bank-codes, MIT License, 2024 release).
2. Accuracy & Validation Cadence
We update our German and Swiss directories on a monthly cycle directly tracking clearing house publications. Sibling tools (IBAN and routing checker patterns) undergo checksum verification against ISO 7064 Mod 97-10 standards. The complete index is verified offline to prevent false positives.
3. Correction & Editorial Policy
If you identify an outdated, missing, or incorrect BIC code, please contact our registry operations team. Corrections are verified against official SWIFT publications and applied to the database within 48 hours.
4. Open Sample Dataset
To support open finance developers, we host a sample dataset package of 13,714 records (covering Germany, the UK, and Switzerland) on GitHub:
